i immersed myself in roses.

i bathed in them, i inhaled them, i consumed them, just as their beauty consumed me.

i opened my heart to them as they opened to my gaze.

i painted them and

ana. the one who poured her whole heart into service. the keeper of the mysteries and herbal remedies. the one who had the best rosehip jam in town on tap. literally. and they came from far and wide to get it by the bucket-fulls.

maria. the one who tended the gardens. the guide taking you on epic adventures with the power of her storytelling. the one you laughed until you cried with. the one who mended your heart with the power of her fart jokes alone.

the ones who prayed. the ones who stayed. 60+ years not looking for love. because love seeped from every fiber of their being.

just like the rose can’t help but share her perfume. it’s who she is.
