good morning, creatress.

“when we have the courage to claim space for ourselves, when we risk creativity, when we relish our sensuality, when we honor our lives and their experiences as valuable, when we create from a female body, expressing ourselves in a woman’s voice, using a woman’s language, we begin to bloom.” - lucy h. pearce

when i was growing up in romania, my brother and i shared a small room. as you might imagine, we had a lot of conflict over all sorts of things, but one lovely tradition that we naturally developed together still thrills me to remember.

every single beginning of a school break, we would completely redo our room. there was never new items, we would just move things around until it felt like we had a whole new room. a fresh beginning. we would make new art to add, and reinvent items that could be transformed and repurposed. it was the one thing we could agree in and the one thing that breathed freshness and life into the tired and conflict ridden old space.

do you have the courage to claim your space with your whole heart?

does your home or your studio serve your creativity? does it inspire? does it nourish and replenish your soul? do you move through your space with ease and with purpose?

the way we neglect our hearts reflects directly into our environment. when we don’t value ourselves, when we are avoiding feeling, when we outsource our inspirations, and hold on to all manner of limiting beliefs, it all comes through in our space and the way we interact with it.

we tell ourselves that messy is the charming way of the artist, but are the never ending piles of odds and ends really conducive to fresh perspectives? can you easily reach for and access the things that you need?

perhaps your studio feels too small to accommodate the exuberant way you tend to create and epic art that wants to come through you.

is that chair that looks so on trend, but is always in the way and really freakin’ uncomfortable really worth the real estate when you don’t yet have a space just for you to regularly get refreshed?

or is your home designed to a T and always instagram ready, but entirely too fussy to fully relax into?

your assignment today is to take a spot in your home or studio and examine it honestly. you are going to draw a prompt from a list of suggested ones, rather than picking a spot you would like to work on in your home. we are doing it this way so that we can look at the space with less attachment, and clearly observe our resistance and also our resourcefulness. also, it’s more fun this way.

if you don’t have that space in your home, what other space serves a similar purpose? or would you like to shift things around and make space for that function?

if you do have the space, how is it used? how does it make you feel? is it serving your higher self or merely taking up space? does it bring a sense of ease or dread? is it practical? is it inspiring? is it fun? does it feel like it belongs?

then start making the changes to it that make your heart feel glad. removing what doesn’t serve and doesn’t delight is the greatest step towards feeling refreshed and luxurious.

what would it look like if you embraced this task wholeheartedly? if you claimed this space for your empowered inner creatress?

attached is a video of my own exploration of “altar”. mine is short and simple, but you can go deep and wide if you feel the pull.

here are the suggested prompt options:

shelf/shelves, bathtub, window, bedroom, couch, altar, table, wall, meditation space, art corner/studio, coffee table, kitchen cabinets, entryway, desk, closet.

write each of it on a small piece of paper, crumple them all up and put them in a bowl. now draw your your prompt from the bowl. no cheating! oooor? do what thou wilt. and do it with intention - knowing why you are making that particular choice.

i hope you have a blast letting your inner artist play home decorator.

love,

-anca
